About Red Light Verified

Red Light Verified is an independent editorial review site for red light therapy devices — masks, full-body panels, handheld wands, and bedroom-grade red bulbs.

Why we exist

The red light therapy device market grew an estimated 160% in the past 12 months (Google Trends search interest, May 2025 – May 2026). Most brand marketing confuses FDA cleared (the weaker 510(k) substantial-equivalence pathway) with FDA approved (which almost no red light device has). Most reviews are paid placement. We exist to call this out.

How we test

  1. Wavelength verification. We require manufacturers to publish specific nm values (e.g., "660 nm + 850 nm"), not vague terms like "red LED". Devices that decline to publish wavelength data get a callout in our reviews.
  2. Irradiance check. We look for irradiance specs published at a realistic treatment distance (typically 6 inches). Devices that publish only "peak irradiance at 0 inches" get flagged as misleading.
  3. FDA 510(k) cross-reference. Every claim of "FDA cleared" is cross-referenced against the FDA 510(k) database at accessdata.fda.gov. If we cannot find a K-number, we report that.
  4. Hands-on use, where feasible. Devices we receive (purchased or sample) are tested for build quality, battery life (for handheld), and user-interface friction.

How we make money

We participate in affiliate programs with the major red light therapy brands. When you click an affiliate link and buy, we may earn a commission. We do not accept paid placement. Ranking position is never influenced by commission size.

See the full Affiliate Disclosure for the specific programs we participate in and the commission ranges.
